How to configure your Personal Firewall to allow inbound connections on specific ports :

When we are connected with internet and using mcafee product so ,this article will helps you to configure your software to allow remote connections to your computer system.

When you are face a Problem :

  • Then the McAfee Security Suite Personal Firewall has default security levels set to block remotely initiated connections.
  • These settings help protect your computer from malicious activities.
  • While the default settings allow your computer to access remote computers, they block other computers from accessing your computer.
  • This can cause problems if you use software (such as eMule, which is a popular peer-to-peer file sharing application).
If you would like certain remote computers to be able to connect to your computer, you must configure Personal Firewall to allow the specific incoming connections. When sharing resources, there are several ways that data access can be restricted.
  • By port (security software such as Personal Firewall)
  • By settings in your Router (includes a built-in firewall)
  • By your Internet service provider
NOTE : Connection issues might be related to the default access rules on your router, or the maximum number of connections allowed by the router itself. If the router reaches its maximum number of connections, it may refuse subsequent connection attempts. Router connection issues can appear to be a problem with your Firewall or other applications; however, the solution usually requires you to either reset your router or configure your router to allow more concurrent connections. Consult your router documentation for specific instructions before attempting to configure or reset your router.

Follow the steps to open the required ports in the Firewall :

While the steps for configuring your Personal Firewall are straightforward, the ports that you choose to open will vary depending on the application(s) you are using.
The steps below show which ports you should open to allow the eMule peer-to-peer file sharing application to work. If you use a different application, adapt the steps to suit.

Identify the ports used by eMule

  • Open eMule and open Preferences.
  • On the left side of the Preferences window, click Connection. The TCP and UDP ports used by eMule are displayed.
  • Note down the port information, and then close eMule.

Open the ports in Personal Firewall

A) Open your McAfee security software.
B) Click Web and Email Protection, then click Firewall.
C) Click Ports and System Services, then click Add.
D) Type in eMule (or the application that you are using) in the Service Name field. You can also type a description of the application or service to help identify the new rule.
E) In Local TCP / IP Ports, type the TCP data for eMule (or the application that you are using) gathered earlier.
F) In Local UDP Ports, type the UDP data for eMule (or the application that you are using) gathered earlier.
G) In Open ports to, choose All PCs from the drop-down menu.
H) Click Save, then restart the computer.
I) Verify that the application functions correctly.

  • If you have a local router with a built-in firewall, you must configure the same inbound rule to enable the port(s) required by the application to direct the traffic to your computer.
  • Opening ports on both your router and computer can allow undesired connections. You should take extra care to ensure that your system is secure.
